AdvancePath helps districts with many of their alternative education challenges, including:

Recovering and educating at-risk, disengaged, and out-of-school youth who struggle academically

Preparing 5th-year seniors who need help to pass the state high school exit exam

Providing intensive credit recovery for students who would benefit from more personalized attention and customized curriculum

Offering an alternative to existing independent study programs for those students who may require increased structure and academic support

Our Solution

The Challenge

The growing number of students who leave high school without earning their diplomas is one of the largest systemic problems facing the US education system today. More than 30% of high school students drop out nationwide. More than 40% of students in our nations’ largest school districts drop out. Nearly 50% of all African-American and Hispanic students do not graduate. In total, over 1.3 million young people per year drop out of school.

When a student drops out of school, the consequences are felt not only by the student – who faces lower earning’s potential and a higher likelihood of entering the criminal justice system – but also by both the student’s family (current and future generations) and society at large which faces the compounding problem of bearing higher social welfare costs of a lower tax base.

AdvancePath's goal is to address these issues head-on by creating innovative Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) to recover, educate, and graduate – at-risk, disengaged, and out-of-school youth.

What Does AdvancePath Do?

AdvancePath provisions and operates world-class, technology-rich Academies, co-located on high school campuses. We work specifically with out-of-school youth and those students at the greatest risk of dropping out of school. In partnership with community organizations, we proactively recruit out-of-school youth to enroll in the Academies. For each student, we create a personalized learning path based on his or her unique academic needs. This individualized learning path satisfies all the requirements necessary to receive a high school diploma and focuses on preparing each student for post-secondary opportunities including employment and college.

Because employment and family care concerns often conflict with students’ school schedules, AdvancePath Academies operate year round, offering multiple sessions throughout the day and evening, as well as on weekends and in the summer, so that a student can choose the schedule that best meets his or her needs.

AdvancePath provides our partner districts with timely and accurate reports of Academy attendance and student achievement. In collaboration with the district, AdvancePath selects, trains, and supports the highly qualified instructional and support staff that run our Academies. Leveraging our expertise with respect to state and federal funding mechanisms, we help school districts maximize all program revenue associated with the recovery and education of at-risk, disengaged and out-of-school youth.

AdvancePath provisions each Academy with all required curricular material, state of the art computer hardware and software, furniture, and supplies – creating a more socially acceptable learning environment for its student population. We also provide robust training and professional development opportunities for all Academy teaching and clerical staff – who remain employees of the district, but are paid for by AdvancePath.

For all of these reasons, school districts are increasingly turning to AdvancePath to help them build a comprehensive alternative education strategy.
