Winter and spring often bring with them the challenge of looking at new online content providers. Sure, we all have variations of review forms and feature checklists designed to make the process easier and ensure that everyone looks at the provider with the same objectives. Sometimes though, unless you’re doing a full-blown RFP, it is easier to look first at how the provider addresses the changing standards world and how well it prepares the students for 21st century empowerment. To get us started, here are 8 elite questions to ask of all online content providers.
- How well will your product’s math and ELA content adjust regardless of what happens with our state’s approach to standards?
- Compare your product’s assessment system to current standards-based assessments. How do you stay current, even ahead, in this fluctuating arena?
- How will using your content and technology enhance my instruction and my students’ learning experience?
- How are you preparing teachers to implement your content in their classrooms?
- Who in your organization develops your standards-related content and assessments? What are their credentials? How long has it been since they worked in a school district, college, or university?
- How does your product address 21st century skills?
- Explain how every student, regardless of skill level, ability, and vocational direction, can find success through using your product.
- How much are you investing in each area: standards-based content, new assessments, 21st century skill development, and socio-emotional or soft skills content?
